Mangakōtukutuku College News

From the Principal

Nau mai, Haere mai,
Welcome welcome welcome to Mangakotukutuku College for 2025.

Let’s make 2025 a fabulous year for our kura.

It has been exciting to welcome new students and we really appreciate the support that their whānau are giving them by attending the powhiri and accompanying their students into class.

We are excited to reintroduce our values to you and to all our students.

WHAIARA  - be ready. Our teachers have spent time together getting ready for their classes and preparing lessons that will engage your students. We have talked with the students about always being ready for class - bringing the right gear, having homework done, being on time, and being ready to learn. We would like your help to support your students to always be ready .

WHAIMANA - be respectful – Our teachers will work hard to always be respectful to your students and to you as their whānau. If you have any concerns please let us know - we are keen to get things right for you and your students.

WHAIORA - be safe - We will always take care to treat any bullying incidents seriously and to include you in any decisions that we make.

We are pleased to notice that most of our students are in uniform and looking great. If any of you have any issues about getting uniforms please let us know. We can help with that.

The timetable is up and running smoothly. There are some minor changes particularly in the senior school where the numbers are large but that will be sorted by the beginning of next week.

There are a few students who are missing classes when they should not be. We are following those students up with getting them on daily reports. We will be in touch with their whānau to let them know their progress. All students must go to class every period.

We have a new phone procedure for the school. I have attached the procedures. We would like all our students who have YONDR pouches to return them. We will be using them in a different way as you will see.

Next week our Year 7s and 8s have a meet the teacher evening. You have all been sent invitations. Please come to that. It is such a great opportunity to for us to meet with you.
We will let you know when the other year levels are having similar evenings.

Ngā mihi,

Whaea Barbara

School Hats

Our 7, 8 and 9 students have all been given school hats. Any other students wanting to purchase their own hat can do so from The Brand Makers for $15.

Year 8 Poetry

Our Year 8 students have been crafting bio poems as a way to express ‘who we are’ and build connections with one another. Through this creative process, they have also developed their writing skills, using two powerful literary devices—repetition and the rule of three—to add impact and rhythm to their work. Enjoy this featured poem, showcasing the depth and creativity of our young writers!

Year 10 Science

Our Year 10 students have been honing their scientific skills by learning how to accurately measure and record temperature while using a Bunsen burner. This hands-on experience not only reinforces their understanding of heat and energy but also strengthens their precision and safety practices in the lab.
