 From the Principal |
Kia ora koutou.
We are very pleased with the way our students have settled into their classes. The timetable is working well and classes are running smoothly.
We had a very successful Meet and Greet with our Years 7 and 8 students. It was lovely to see so many families coming in to support their young ones. It was a great opportunity to meet with the teachers who will be mostly responsible for the students and their learning this year. Please keep in touch with the teachers if you are worried or curious about anything at all.The learning matters.
On Wednesday night the whaanau of our Year 9 and 10 students came for their Meet and Greet. This was another successful evening and again it was wonderful to see so many of you.
On Wednesday evening we also hosted an NCEA information evening. It is really important to find out how NCEA works for your students. We need for your students to be very clear about what is expected of them and you can help by discussing the importance of completing assessments and aiming for excellence with them. It was great to see so many of you attend this evening. If you missed this evening and want information please be in touch with your student’s whaanau teacher.

Introducing our Head Students (Part One) ![]() Azheemah Ali As Head Student, I envision a school where everyone feels supported and valued, creating a close-knit, family-oriented community. As a proud Fijian Indian, I bring a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for diversity. With a passion for drama, I aim to inspire creativity and self-expression while fostering collaboration. I'm dedicated to leading with kindness, making a positive impact, and helping others reach their full potential.
Rashi Naidu I'm Rashi Naidu and I hail from the beautiful island of Fiji. I am a science student. I have always had a strong fascination with the globe, which inspired me to follow my love of science. I learn something new every day, and as I gain knowledge, my desire to unravel the universe's secrets grows.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a strong interest in a number of artistic endeavors. I enjoy reading books because they let me explore a variety of viewpoints and take me to new places. Another one of my passions is writing books since it allows me to communicate my views and thoughts in a way that is all mine. One of my greatest loves is Formula 1 racing. The speed, strategy, and excitement of the sport captivate me.
I have a deep appreciation for my school and teacher, who has had a significant impact on my life. Their guidance, support, and dedication to education have inspired me in ways that words cannot fully express. I am incredibly grateful for the knowledge they’ve shared with me, and they remain one of my greatest mentors.

Celebrating our School Values |
This week our focus has been on talking about our values and celebrating what they mean to us. Our Head Students organised gate parades and lunch time activities to encourage student involvement and build an understanding of what is means to show Whaimana, Whaiora and Whaiara. |
Our Year 12 Biology students recently got hands-on with their learning as they explored the anatomy of kina through a detailed dissection. This practical activity helped them deepen their understanding of echinoderm structure and function, reinforcing key concepts from their studies. With curiosity and precision, students examined the internal organs and discussed the role kina play in our marine ecosystems. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom theory with real-world biology! |

Our Year 10 Science students have been diving into the water cycle, exploring how water moves through our environment. As part of their learning, they created models to demonstrate how clouds form. This hands-on activity helped them visualize key scientific concepts in action, sparking great discussions about weather patterns and climate. |
Literacy and Numeracy PracticeOur Year 11 students are fortunate to have access to the eStudee platform to help them prepare for the Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities. There are three digital exams which will be sat by all Year 11 students (and any Year 10 students who are ready) in May and/ or September this year. Passing these exams will give our students their 10 Literacy and 10 Numeracy credits that they need in order to pass NCEA. Here, one of the classes uses eStudee to become familiar with some of the questions they may see in the exanm. | | |

Every school day counts in a child's academic life...A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn.
Chronic student absence reduces even the best teacher's ability to provide learning opportunities. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. This relationship between attendance and achievement may appear early in a child's school career.
When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction that is needed to develop basic skills.
Poor attendance can also have a negative effect on social and emotional development. For example, students who are chronically absent may not learn crucial school readiness skills (abilities such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative thinking), and can fall behind their peers in social-emotional development.
Please ensure your child comes to school regularly. If your child is not able to come to school as they are unwell please contact our absence line via phone call or text or emailing.
Students who have regular absences will be referred to the School Engagement Coordinator or Attendance Services.
