Celebrating Year 10 Excellence

Orewa College proudly celebrated the achievements of our Year 10 students during the Graduation and Prizegiving ceremony at the end of Term 4, 2024! 

Four exceptional students were recognized for embodying the core values of our kura.

 
  • Eva Shukla received the Ako Orewa Award for her dedication to learning.
  • John Potgieter was honored with the Manaaki Orewa Award for his kindness and outstanding support of others.
  • Mia Che was presented with the Principal’s Award for her inspiring leadership.
  • Bo (Sherap) Wang earned the Mātauranga Award for her pursuit of academic excellence.

Years 7 & 8 Prizegiving

 

We celebrated our Year 7 and 8 students who excelled at our 2024 prizegiving.  These talented ākonga were honoured for their dedication, kindness, and pursuit of excellence.

 

Year 7 Awards

  • Manaaki Orewa Award: Satakhun Phakdeerak, for showing remarkable care and support for others.
  • Principal’s Award: Henry Blakeman, for his exceptional leadership.
  • Mātauranga Award: Nina Pfeiffer, for her outstanding academic achievements.
 

Year 8 Awards

  • Ako Orewa Award: Oliver Hoekzema and Teodora Vlatkovic, for their dedication to learning.
  • Manaaki Orewa Award: Lesieli Namoa, for her compassion and support of others.
  • Principal’s Award: Sofia Brown, for her leadership and positive influence.
  • Mātauranga Award: Doyoon Kim, for excellence in knowledge.

Music Information Evening

An information evening will be held on Wednesday 5 February in the Orewa Arts and Events Centre at the college from 5.30pm - 6.30pm.

New students will have the opportunity to find out more about the instruments we offer and register for lessons.

 
 
 

Netball 2025

Registrations for Orewa College Netball 2025 are now open, and trials will begin in week 4. Please register HERE.

Dental Planet Visit - Years 9-13

 

The Dental Planet Van will be visiting the college from Monday 10 February until Friday 28 February.

Dental Planet’s qualified dental professionals will provide services such as:

  • Dental examinations
  • Cleaning and polishing
  • Necessary dental treatments (Fluoride treatment, fillings, sealants, etc.)

Year 7 Vision Testing

Notification has been received from Te Whatu Ora that the school will not receive vision testing for Year 7 students for 2025.  

If parents/caregivers are concerned about their child’s vision, we do advise they take their
child to see an Optometrist for a full diagnostic screening.
Note: Specsavers offer free Vision screening for all children under 16 years.

 
 
 
 

2024 Yearbooks 

 
 

Students who ordered a PRINTED book and left the college in 2024 may collect their book from the library.   

All other students who ordered a printed 2024 Yearbook, these will be distributed in form class on the first day of school.

DIGITAL orders of the Yearbook will be sent out with instructions and password on Thursday 30 January.

Smashing Success for Denise Swanepoel

Orewa College student Denise Swanepoel has achieved an incredible milestone in softball. Over the holidays, Denise represented the U17 North Harbour Softball Team at the National Tournament in Christchurch, where her exceptional performance earned her a spot on the New Zealand U17 Girls Softball Tournament Team.

 
 
 
 
 

This achievement reflects Denise's dedication and skill on the field. “Representing North Harbour was already an honour,” Denise says, “but being named to the New Zealand team is a dream come true!”

Principal Wiri Warriner expressed his pride, saying, “This is a fantastic milestone for Denise, and we can’t wait to see what she achieves next. Ka mau te wehi!”

Reminder: Buses (040 and 050) - Year 10 Students

A reminder that any Year 11 students that caught the 040 or 050 bus last year, will no longer be able to catch these buses in 2025 as these buses are only for Year 7-10 students.

We advise that you catch the 981 from Centreway Road or the 984 from Riverside Road to get to Silverdale or the HBC Station or the 985 from New World to go through Millwater (Bankside Road).

Canteen

The Junior and Senior Canteens will open from Thursday 30 January.

Orewa College is proud to partner with Libelle Group to provide our students with healthy, nutritionally balanced, and eco-friendly meals. This partnership includes support from the Heart Foundation Fuelled4Life, the Diabetes Project Trust, and BioPak to ensure students are fueled with the right food for learning.

Waitangi Day Invitation
 

Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae warmly invites the Orewa College community to join us this Waitangi Day as we come together to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi

We are excited to offer a day filled with opportunities to learn, connect, and celebrate the principles of Te Tiriti.

 
 

Workshops & Kid friendly Activities on the Day:

 
  • Treaty Workshop – Deepen your understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi with the Coast Action Collective.
  • Rongoā Workshop – Discover the wisdom of traditional Māori medicine with Tricia Curtis from Naturally by Trisha.
  • Mahi Toi – Get creative with arts and crafts, guided by the Estuary Arts Centre.
  • Lawn Games - Fun for the whole whānau!
  • Kai will be available to purchase on throughout the day
