Tēnā koutou, ki te whānau o Onehunga High School,
The past few weeks at Onehunga High
School have been filled with significant celebrations and achievements. Last week, we held our
annual Prizegiving ceremony, recognising the hard work and accomplishments of our students
across all fields. Alongside Prizegiving, we introduced our first-ever Arts Awards,
acknowledging the incredible talents of our students in visual arts, music, drama, and
dance.
We recently held our inaugural Pasifika Awards Evening, featuring guest
speaker Carmel Sepuloni, who shared inspiring words on the importance of academic success. Her
message resonated deeply with students and families, underscoring our shared commitment to
both education and cultural pride within our community.
With exams now underway for the
senior school and junior exams beginning next week, it’s essential for students to stay
organised and approach each day with focus. Arriving at school ahead of start times can help
ease any last-minute nerves, and having a clear plan for each exam day is key. Alongside
academic preparation, prioritising health is crucial; balanced meals, daily physical activity,
and a consistent sleep routine will support students' concentration and help reduce
stress.
Supporting student well-being at Onehunga High School is essential. To
strengthen this commitment, we’ve introduced SchoolTV, a resource that provides whānau with
valuable tools and advice to support young people through today’s challenges. Our dedicated
counselling team is also here to support students directly, helping them navigate school
life.
As we enter Term 4, our final term of the year, it’s a time for reflection
and review. There is much to be proud of.
Thank you for your continued
support.
Have a great weekend.

Careers
This week, 25 of our junior students visited an expo at MOTAT to delve into the
world of science and STEM careers. Working together, they designed and built a
suspension bridge, gaining hands-on experience with engineering principles and
problem-solving. They also tested their skills flying drones, exploring the science of
aerodynamics and how drone technology is transforming industries. Through virtual
reality, they journeyed into the ocean's depths, uncovering advances in marine
technology. Students had the chance to engage with cutting-edge innovations, including
the HoloLens, new identification software, and developments in photonics and light
manipulation. The expo provided an exciting glimpse into career paths in engineering and
aviation, with many students showing a keen interest in what it takes to become a
pilot.
